The original French title of this tune was "Demain" ("Tomorrow" in English). The song borrows motifs and themes from several songs from the first act. This track presents voices and solos from almost all of the main characters excluding Fantine, who had died by this moment in the musical's story.

"One Day More", along with the show, has been translated into twenty-one languages, including Japanese, Hebrew, Icelandic, Norwegian, Czech, Polish, Spanish, and Estonian. 31 cast recordings feature this song.

The song "La Resistance" from "South Park: Bigger Longer and Uncut" parodied this track in 1999.

"One Day More" was sung by James Corden on the popular Carpool karaoke segment in 2016. One of his guests was Lin-Manuel Miranda.
